The light and floating appearance of Glassalen in Gilleleje draws references to the nearby maritime buildings. The stair and elevator tower resembles a prism that leads up to a bridge whose span runs across the roof of Glassalen.
6 columns in the existing grocery store below support the two large steel lattice frames on which trapezoidal profiled sheets act as an abutment to the meeting hall’s floor and roof structures. All steelwork has a graphite grey finish and the bridge and rooftop terrace are clad in hardwood. The view and light through the glass facades are controlled by electric solar screen slats on the outside and blackout curtains on the inside. A new urban space with numerous potential applications for the town’s citizens has been created.
